4th Graders: "Put Yourself in the Place of: Wassily Kandinsky"

After all of the steps that it took for the 4th Graders to create their prints I felt like it would be good to do a mini lesson that didn't take too many steps and they could immerse themselves with.  "Put Yourself in the Place of:" is a series in the art room where students will study a time in an artists life and then work on their art in a similar manner.  In this case the 4th graders studied the day of January 2, 1911 when Kandinsky went to see a concert of Strings Quartet 2 by Arnold Schoenberg in Berlin Germany.  Kandinsky had been working on creating more abstract work and immediately after that concert began his study of the similarities between painting and music.  The 4th graders listened to the same piece of music Kandinsky heard that night and 'painted the music' so to speak.  They were specifically asked to not try to make a picture that represented something, but rather to let go and experience how the music informed their mark making.
