A Unit on Line

Kindergarteners at Heights and Simis are studying line.  At both schools we read the book "Lines that Wiggle," and talked about all of the different lines we see around us.
The kinders at Simis then made these super cool abstract sculptures with ten different lines that they turned from straight to curved, angled, zig zagged and more.  They were asked to title them and came up with some pretty awesome titles like: Rollercoaster, Eiffel Tower, Target and Chik-fil-A. Now these gems are on their way home.

The Kinders at Heights started on line butterflies because they needed to make a 2D piece for a PTO fundraiser.  They used a popsicle stick and one precut stencil they had to place and trace 4 times to create their butterfly in pencil.  They outlined the butterfly in marker and then we all drew different types of lines together.  Then the kids were asked to color the space between the lines.  They have come out so great that now the Simis kids are making the line butterflies.  The Heights kids will be making the line sculptures too.
